What code CC_a010 means

The controller inside the Tesla Wall Connector. These codes describe the state of the home installation — connector temperature, pilot signal, earthing, supply voltage. The fault therefore sits in the charger or the wiring, not in the car.

Severity — a

The most common type. The car logged the event and may have shown it on the screen. The range is wide — from something trivial that clears itself to something that needs attention.

Internal alert name

This is how the fault is named inside the car's firmware. For codes without a description it is the most precise clue there is — the name itself says what the event is about.

CC_a010_contactorWelded

We do not have a detailed description for this code yet

Tesla only publishes descriptions for some codes. What we do know for certain is its classification and the internal name above — and from those you can reliably tell which part of the car it concerns.

This code does not come from the car but from the Tesla Wall Connector. The screen or the app shows “Unable to charge - Wall Connector issue”. What happened: the contactor inside the charger — the power switch that lets current onto the cable — stayed closed when it should have been open. Typically because its contacts have welded together. The Wall Connector detects this by measuring voltage at the output when there should be none. This is a safety matter, not an inconvenience. The charger locks itself out and stops charging, because with a welded contactor hazardous voltage can be present on the charging handle even when no charging is going on. So handle it no more than necessary, and certainly do not try to take it apart. What to do: according to Tesla the state resets by unplugging and replugging the cable, by the reset button on the unit, or by cycling the breaker. If the code returns after a reset, the contactor really is faulty and the Wall Connector needs replacing or repairing — stop using it. The car is fine; the fault is on the charger side. Reported by Cybertruck, Model 3, Model S and X from 2021, and Model Y.

What to do about it

01

Write down the whole code

Copy it exactly, letter and number included. Photographing the screen is safest — codes often differ by a single digit, and mixing them up leads somewhere else entirely.

02

Try letting the car sleep and wake

Some codes clear after a screen restart or after the car sits locked for a few hours. If the code does not come back, it was usually a one-off glitch.

03

Watch whether it repeats

A one-off entry and a code that appears after every drive are two different things. It helps a service centre enormously if you know exactly when it shows up.

04

Do not wait on safety systems

With airbags, brakes, steering and high voltage there is no point waiting it out. With the other groups you can watch and see whether the code returns at all.

Before you act on a code. This page is a reference dictionary, not a repair manual. It explains what an abbreviation means and what it relates to — it does not diagnose your car. The same code can have different causes, and its meaning also shifts between firmware versions. For anything involving brakes, steering, airbags or high voltage, go straight to a service centre.
