What code CP_a015 means

The car's charge port — latch, connector lock, indicator light and proximity sensor. These codes typically appear when the connector will not lock or the car does not register that it is plugged in.

Severity — a

The most common type. The car logged the event and may have shown it on the screen. The range is wide — from something trivial that clears itself to something that needs attention.

Internal alert name

This is how the fault is named inside the car's firmware. For codes without a description it is the most precise clue there is — the name itself says what the event is about.

Inak ide o poruchu v dobíjaní a patrí do servisu.

Kolejna możliwość to nieprawidłowe rozruchowe podłączenie z obcego źródła albo prostownik do akumulatora dwunastowoltowego z wadliwą regulacją. W przeciwnym razie chodzi o usterkę ładowania i sprawa należy do serwisu.

A driver will not usually see this code on the screen, but it shows itself when charging fails to start or is interrupted. What happened: the charge port control unit has its own low-voltage supply and watches the voltage on it. Here it measured more than 16.5 volts, which is above the permitted limit. Tesla's description explicitly warns that at too high a voltage the charge port unit can be damaged — so this is not merely an inconvenience but a risk to the component itself. What causes overvoltage: the 12-volt system normally sits around 12 to 14.5 volts depending on whether it is charging. It gets above 16.5 volts when the charging regulation fails — typically in the converter that feeds the 12-volt side from the high-voltage system. Another possibility is an improper jump start, or a 12-volt charger with faulty regulation. What to do: if you have recently jump-started the car or connected an external 12-volt charger, disconnect it and check. Otherwise this is a fault in the charging system and belongs in service. Overvoltage does not only harm the charge port — it stresses the rest of the car's electronics too, so it should not be driven with for long. Reported by Cybertruck, Model 3, Model S and X from 2021, and Model Y.

What to do about it

01

Write down the whole code

Copy it exactly, letter and number included. Photographing the screen is safest — codes often differ by a single digit, and mixing them up leads somewhere else entirely.

02

Try letting the car sleep and wake

Some codes clear after a screen restart or after the car sits locked for a few hours. If the code does not come back, it was usually a one-off glitch.

03

Watch whether it repeats

A one-off entry and a code that appears after every drive are two different things. It helps a service centre enormously if you know exactly when it shows up.

04

Do not wait on safety systems

With airbags, brakes, steering and high voltage there is no point waiting it out. With the other groups you can watch and see whether the code returns at all.

Before you act on a code. This page is a reference dictionary, not a repair manual. It explains what an abbreviation means and what it relates to — it does not diagnose your car. The same code can have different causes, and its meaning also shifts between firmware versions. For anything involving brakes, steering, airbags or high voltage, go straight to a service centre.
