What code CP_a064 means

The car's charge port — latch, connector lock, indicator light and proximity sensor. These codes typically appear when the connector will not lock or the car does not register that it is plugged in.

Severity — a

The most common type. The car logged the event and may have shown it on the screen. The range is wide — from something trivial that clears itself to something that needs attention.

Internal alert name

This is how the fault is named inside the car's firmware. For codes without a description it is the most precise clue there is — the name itself says what the event is about.

Co s tím: tohle nelze vyřešit svépomocí ani výměnou dílu — je to položka v konfiguraci vozu a mění ji jedině Tesla. Není to samozřejmost. Hlásí ho Cybertruck, Model 3 a Model S.

Dlaczego to w ogóle istnieje: Tesla w niektórych autach wiązała dostęp do Superchargerów z konkretnym wyposażeniem albo z opłaconą pozycją. Zgłaszają go Cybertruck, Model 3 i Model S.

The screen shows “Supercharging not enabled” and the car will not start charging at a Supercharger. What happened: the charge port control unit recognised a Supercharger cable plugged in, but the car's configuration does not permit Supercharging. This is neither a fault nor a technical shortcoming — the car is physically capable, it simply has it switched off in a configuration it carries from the factory or from its history. Why this exists at all: on some cars Tesla tied Supercharger access to particular equipment or a paid item. That mainly affected older Model S and some vehicles originally destined for other markets. On a car imported from abroad it occasionally happens that this item is simply missing from the configuration. Where people run into it: usually after buying an imported used car. The car drives, charges at home and at ordinary stalls, but at a Supercharger nothing happens. That is the moment it emerges that the car does not have Supercharging enabled. What to do: this cannot be solved yourself or by replacing a part — it is an item in the car's configuration and only Tesla can change it. Contact service and ask specifically about enabling Supercharging in the configuration. In the meantime charge at ordinary stalls, which work normally. Advice for used-car buyers: if you are buying an imported car, test charging at a Supercharger before you buy. It is not a given. Reported by Cybertruck, Model 3 and Model S.

Anything specific helps: the circumstances in which the code appeared, whether it cleared itself, what the service centre said, what was replaced and roughly what it cost.

What to do about it

01

Write down the whole code

Copy it exactly, letter and number included. Photographing the screen is safest — codes often differ by a single digit, and mixing them up leads somewhere else entirely.

02

Try letting the car sleep and wake

Some codes clear after a screen restart or after the car sits locked for a few hours. If the code does not come back, it was usually a one-off glitch.

03

Watch whether it repeats

A one-off entry and a code that appears after every drive are two different things. It helps a service centre enormously if you know exactly when it shows up.

04

Do not wait on safety systems

With airbags, brakes, steering and high voltage there is no point waiting it out. With the other groups you can watch and see whether the code returns at all.

Before you act on a code. This page is a reference dictionary, not a repair manual. It explains what an abbreviation means and what it relates to — it does not diagnose your car. The same code can have different causes, and its meaning also shifts between firmware versions. For anything involving brakes, steering, airbags or high voltage, go straight to a service centre.
