What code DAS_w002 means

The Driver Assistance System — the Autopilot computer itself, including camera image processing. These codes describe the unit's internal state: communication, memory, power supply.

Severity — w

The car is flagging that something is not right. Driving is usually still possible, but some function may be limited.

Internal alert name

This is how the fault is named inside the car's firmware. For codes without a description it is the most precise clue there is — the name itself says what the event is about.

Description from the service documentation

Tesla oznaczyła go jako przestarzały i nowsze oprogramowanie go nie wywołuje.

With this code the most important piece of information is the one Tesla gives about it itself: it is deprecated. What that means: the code belonged to the driver assistance group, but it is no longer used in the firmware. Tesla has marked it obsolete and newer software does not raise it. It has stayed in the code lists, but it has lost its living meaning. Why such codes exist at all: Tesla's firmware evolves quickly. Diagnostics get rewritten, monitoring moves between units, codes are merged and replaced by more precise ones. A deprecated code is a trace of some earlier shape of the system. Tesla does not delete it from the list, because it can appear in old service records and must remain findable. What to do if you see it somewhere anyway: most often it appears in a historical diagnostic printout rather than in the car's current state. If you see it in a third-party app, that may be because the app works from an older code list, or because of a mistranslated code number. What to do: if the car shows nothing on screen and the assistance systems work, there is nothing to address. If the assistants do not work, look for the real cause among the other active DAS group codes — the deprecated code will not lead you there. It is worth noting that this is one of the few situations where the honest answer is “this code means nothing”. Inventing a meaning for it would be worse than admitting that.

Anything specific helps: the circumstances in which the code appeared, whether it cleared itself, what the service centre said, what was replaced and roughly what it cost.

What to do about it

01

Write down the whole code

Copy it exactly, letter and number included. Photographing the screen is safest — codes often differ by a single digit, and mixing them up leads somewhere else entirely.

02

Try letting the car sleep and wake

Some codes clear after a screen restart or after the car sits locked for a few hours. If the code does not come back, it was usually a one-off glitch.

03

Watch whether it repeats

A one-off entry and a code that appears after every drive are two different things. It helps a service centre enormously if you know exactly when it shows up.

04

Do not wait on safety systems

With airbags, brakes, steering and high voltage there is no point waiting it out. With the other groups you can watch and see whether the code returns at all.

Before you act on a code. This page is a reference dictionary, not a repair manual. It explains what an abbreviation means and what it relates to — it does not diagnose your car. The same code can have different causes, and its meaning also shifts between firmware versions. For anything involving brakes, steering, airbags or high voltage, go straight to a service centre.
