ESP_a207

a Alert

Code ESP_a207 was reported by the “Stability control and ABS (ESP)” controller in the car. The letter “a” in the middle places it among entries of the alert type.

What code ESP_a207 means

The electronic stability program — ESP, ABS, traction control and brake force distribution. These codes show up as warning lights and some assistance systems dropping out. The car still brakes, just without electronic help.

Severity — a

The most common type. The car logged the event and may have shown it on the screen. The range is wide — from something trivial that clears itself to something that needs attention.

Internal alert name

This is how the fault is named inside the car's firmware. For codes without a description it is the most precise clue there is — the name itself says what the event is about.

Description from the service documentation

The text below comes from Tesla's technical documentation. We leave it in the original English so that translation cannot shift its meaning.

The CAN Bus status is monitored cyclically, when ever there is a short circuit between CAN-H and CAN-L or a heavy bus disturbance which leads to BusOff, the fault is registerd

Reverse current at wheel speed sensor supply detected and the reverse protection switch is switched off.

Backward power supply of ECU via WSS supply line is detected. One of the WSS power supply lines is shorted to Ubat.

Check WSS connection line for short circuits.

Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor against second signal failed due WSS signal interferences or disturbances.

Internal electronic fault detected on HSV valves.

The unit has detected an internal fault in the HSV valves or valve controls

Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Generic Fault.

WSS test failure of WSS_RL (Short circuit supply line to UBATT short circuits between sensors any line failure)

What to do about it

01

Write down the whole code

Copy it exactly, letter and number included. Photographing the screen is safest — codes often differ by a single digit, and mixing them up leads somewhere else entirely.

02

Try letting the car sleep and wake

Some codes clear after a screen restart or after the car sits locked for a few hours. If the code does not come back, it was usually a one-off glitch.

03

Watch whether it repeats

A one-off entry and a code that appears after every drive are two different things. It helps a service centre enormously if you know exactly when it shows up.

04

Do not wait on safety systems

With airbags, brakes, steering and high voltage there is no point waiting it out. With the other groups you can watch and see whether the code returns at all.

Before you act on a code. This page is a reference dictionary, not a repair manual. It explains what an abbreviation means and what it relates to — it does not diagnose your car. The same code can have different causes, and its meaning also shifts between firmware versions. For anything involving brakes, steering, airbags or high voltage, go straight to a service centre.
