What code PARK_w007 means

The ultrasonic parking sensors. These codes report a blocked, disconnected or internally faulty sensor. They show up as the parking assistant dropping out and do not affect driving.

Severity — w

The car is flagging that something is not right. Driving is usually still possible, but some function may be limited.

Internal alert name

This is how the fault is named inside the car's firmware. For codes without a description it is the most precise clue there is — the name itself says what the event is about.

Description from the service documentation

The text below comes from Tesla's technical documentation. We leave it in the original English so that translation cannot shift its meaning.

This alert indicates there is likely a short to ground in the wiring to the sensor or the sensor is disconnected.

A driver will not usually see this code on the screen, but will recognise it because the parking sensors are reporting nonsense or not working at all. What happened: the parking sensor control unit found a problem on the wiring to one of the sensors. The service description is pleasantly specific for this code — it is either a short to ground in the sensor wiring, or the sensor is disconnected. What it means in practice: a missing sensor means a blind spot. The car may report an obstacle where there is none, or conversely miss the real one. On Teslas that also use the parking sensors for automatic parking and summoning the car, those features usually become unavailable entirely. What usually causes it: the sensors sit in the bumper, the most exposed place on the car. It is most often the result of a small knock while parking, damage after a bumper repair or respray, water and salt in the connector, or a chafed cable. Occasionally a sensor simply works loose from its holder and unplugs. What to do: start by looking. Walk the bumper and look for a sensor sitting differently from the rest, cracked, or painted over — a painted-over sensor is a classic after a repair by a careless bodyshop, and it is enough to stop it working. If everything looks fine from outside, it is the wiring or a connector and belongs in service.

What to do about it

01

Write down the whole code

Copy it exactly, letter and number included. Photographing the screen is safest — codes often differ by a single digit, and mixing them up leads somewhere else entirely.

02

Try letting the car sleep and wake

Some codes clear after a screen restart or after the car sits locked for a few hours. If the code does not come back, it was usually a one-off glitch.

03

Watch whether it repeats

A one-off entry and a code that appears after every drive are two different things. It helps a service centre enormously if you know exactly when it shows up.

04

Do not wait on safety systems

With airbags, brakes, steering and high voltage there is no point waiting it out. With the other groups you can watch and see whether the code returns at all.

Before you act on a code. This page is a reference dictionary, not a repair manual. It explains what an abbreviation means and what it relates to — it does not diagnose your car. The same code can have different causes, and its meaning also shifts between firmware versions. For anything involving brakes, steering, airbags or high voltage, go straight to a service centre.
