What code PARK_w041 means

The ultrasonic parking sensors. These codes report a blocked, disconnected or internally faulty sensor. They show up as the parking assistant dropping out and do not affect driving.

Severity — w

The car is flagging that something is not right. Driving is usually still possible, but some function may be limited.

Internal alert name

This is how the fault is named inside the car's firmware. For codes without a description it is the most precise clue there is — the name itself says what the event is about.

PARK_w041_ECUSupplyHigh

Description from the service documentation

The text below comes from Tesla's technical documentation. We leave it in the original English so that translation cannot shift its meaning.

The voltage to the PARK Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is too high.

Stejné napájení jde do celé řady dalších jednotek a ty ho hlásit nemusí. Jinak nechte prověřit dobíjení dvanáctivoltové soustavy — a neodkládejte to.

Rovnaké napájanie ide do celého radu ďalších jednotiek a tie ho hlásiť nemusia. Inak nechajte preveriť dobíjanie dvanásťvoltovej sústavy — a neodkladajte to.

Kolejna możliwość to rozruch z obcego źródła albo zewnętrzny prostownik do akumulatora dwunastowoltowego z wadliwą regulacją. Dotyczy Modelu S 2012–2020 i Modelu X 2015–2020.

A driver will not normally see this code on the screen — it is a service record from the parking sensor control unit. What happened: the unit measures the voltage of its own supply and found it too high. The service description puts it exactly that way: the voltage to the PARK control unit is too high. What usually causes overvoltage: the 12-volt system normally sits around 12 to 14.5 volts depending on whether it is charging. It goes higher when the charging regulation fails — typically in the converter that feeds the 12-volt side from the high-voltage system. Another possibility is a jump start, or an external 12-volt charger with faulty regulation. Why the unit reports it: electronics are designed for a particular voltage range. Above it, component life shortens and in the extreme they fail. The unit reports it precisely so someone notices before something burns out. What matters here: if the overvoltage really exists, the parking sensors are not the only ones suffering from it. The same supply feeds a whole range of other units, and they need not report it. So this code can be the first sign of something affecting the whole car. What to do: if you have recently jump-started the car or connected an external charger, disconnect it. Otherwise have the 12-volt charging checked — and do not put it off. Applies to Model S 2012–2020 and Model X 2015–2020.

What to do about it

01

Write down the whole code

Copy it exactly, letter and number included. Photographing the screen is safest — codes often differ by a single digit, and mixing them up leads somewhere else entirely.

02

Try letting the car sleep and wake

Some codes clear after a screen restart or after the car sits locked for a few hours. If the code does not come back, it was usually a one-off glitch.

03

Watch whether it repeats

A one-off entry and a code that appears after every drive are two different things. It helps a service centre enormously if you know exactly when it shows up.

04

Do not wait on safety systems

With airbags, brakes, steering and high voltage there is no point waiting it out. With the other groups you can watch and see whether the code returns at all.

Before you act on a code. This page is a reference dictionary, not a repair manual. It explains what an abbreviation means and what it relates to — it does not diagnose your car. The same code can have different causes, and its meaning also shifts between firmware versions. For anything involving brakes, steering, airbags or high voltage, go straight to a service centre.
