What code VCFRONT_a466 means

Vehicle Controller Front — the front body controller. It handles the 12 V supply, the frunk, lights, wipers, pumps and cooling valves. One of the most frequently reported groups, because 12 V battery problems land here too.

Severity — a

The most common type. The car logged the event and may have shown it on the screen. The range is wide — from something trivial that clears itself to something that needs attention.

Internal alert name

This is how the fault is named inside the car's firmware. For codes without a description it is the most precise clue there is — the name itself says what the event is about.

Description from the service documentation

The text below comes from Tesla's technical documentation. We leave it in the original English so that translation cannot shift its meaning.

Discrepancy between compressor and EXV estimated refrigerant flow rates

This alert is set when refrigerant flow index is above expected levels and subcool is low

This alert will clear on sleep

Thermal performance may be degraded

Co to znamená v provozu: Teslin popis uvádí zhoršený tepelný výkon.

Was tun: selbst nichts.

To podstawowy wskaźnik zdrowia obiegu klimatyzacji. This code belongs to the Cybertruck and a driver will not usually see it on the screen — it is a service record from the refrigerant circuit. What happened: the car compared two independent estimates of refrigerant flow and they disagree. One estimate comes from the compressor, the other from the electronic expansion valve. When they diverge, the circuit believes two different things about itself. What “subcool” means: subcooling — how much colder the liquefied refrigerant is than its boiling point at the prevailing pressure. It is a basic health indicator for a refrigerant circuit. Low subcooling with high flow typically means there is not enough refrigerant in the circuit — it boils off sooner than it should. What it means on the road: Tesla's description notes degraded thermal performance. In practice that is usually weaker air conditioning, slower fast charging in the heat because the battery is not cooled as well, or an earlier power limit under load. What is practical about this code: it clears itself when the car goes to sleep. So its presence in the log need not mean a persistent condition — repeated occurrences, however, do. What to do: nothing yourself. The refrigerant circuit is a sealed system opened only with the proper equipment. If you are noticing weaker air conditioning or slower charging in summer, have the refrigerant charge checked. Reported by the Cybertruck.

What to do about it

01

Write down the whole code

Copy it exactly, letter and number included. Photographing the screen is safest — codes often differ by a single digit, and mixing them up leads somewhere else entirely.

02

Try letting the car sleep and wake

Some codes clear after a screen restart or after the car sits locked for a few hours. If the code does not come back, it was usually a one-off glitch.

03

Watch whether it repeats

A one-off entry and a code that appears after every drive are two different things. It helps a service centre enormously if you know exactly when it shows up.

04

Do not wait on safety systems

With airbags, brakes, steering and high voltage there is no point waiting it out. With the other groups you can watch and see whether the code returns at all.

Before you act on a code. This page is a reference dictionary, not a repair manual. It explains what an abbreviation means and what it relates to — it does not diagnose your car. The same code can have different causes, and its meaning also shifts between firmware versions. For anything involving brakes, steering, airbags or high voltage, go straight to a service centre.
