What code APP_w323 means

The application layer of Autopilot. Drives adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, lane changes and sign recognition. Faults here usually mean an assistance feature switched itself off temporarily — typically due to poor visibility or incomplete camera calibration.

Severity — w

The car is flagging that something is not right. Driving is usually still possible, but some function may be limited.

Internal alert name

This is how the fault is named inside the car's firmware. For codes without a description it is the most precise clue there is — the name itself says what the event is about.

Do toho druhého patří ostatní vozidla, svodidla, obrubníky, chodci.

Dotyczy Modelu S 2012–2020 i Modelu X 2015–2020.

This code records the moment the car warned you about a possible collision. What happened: the system issued a forward collision warning because, by the Autopilot computer's calculation, the car's current trajectory was heading into space it cannot drive through. A collision warning is audible and visual — it is the moment the car beeps and a red alert appears on the screen. What “drivable space” means: Autopilot divides the area around the car into space it can drive through and space it cannot. The latter includes other vehicles, barriers, kerbs, pedestrians. When the calculation shows the current trajectory pointing into such space, the system warns. Why this is not a fault: the code is written every time the warning sounds. So it is also written when the warning was entirely justified and you responded correctly. The service note confirms it — the code clears once the warning is no longer active. When it deserves attention: if you get warnings often and for no apparent reason. False warnings tend to result from dirty or uncalibrated cameras, a wet road with reflections, or queue driving where the system misjudges gaps. If it happens regularly, have the cameras and their calibration checked — a warning you have stopped believing is a warning you cannot rely on. Applies to Model S 2012–2020 and Model X 2015–2020.

What to do about it

01

Write down the whole code

Copy it exactly, letter and number included. Photographing the screen is safest — codes often differ by a single digit, and mixing them up leads somewhere else entirely.

02

Try letting the car sleep and wake

Some codes clear after a screen restart or after the car sits locked for a few hours. If the code does not come back, it was usually a one-off glitch.

03

Watch whether it repeats

A one-off entry and a code that appears after every drive are two different things. It helps a service centre enormously if you know exactly when it shows up.

04

Do not wait on safety systems

With airbags, brakes, steering and high voltage there is no point waiting it out. With the other groups you can watch and see whether the code returns at all.

Before you act on a code. This page is a reference dictionary, not a repair manual. It explains what an abbreviation means and what it relates to — it does not diagnose your car. The same code can have different causes, and its meaning also shifts between firmware versions. For anything involving brakes, steering, airbags or high voltage, go straight to a service centre.
